God has commanded that men worship Him in spirit and truth
(John 4:23-24). So, it is not enough for man to be sincere
and have the right spirit or attitude toward worship, but
every act of worship must be according to truth, or according
to the Word of God (John 17:17).
Christians, in their worship of God, are to do the following:
Pray to God: (I Cor. 14:15 ; I Thess. 5:17)
Sing Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs: (Eph. 5:19 ; Col. 3:16-17)
Note: Instrumental music, as an act of worship, was not introduced
by professing Christians until about the 7th century after Christ.
Partake of the Lord Supper: (Math. 26:26-28 ; I Cor. 11:23-30 ; Acts 20:7)
Give: (I Cor. 16:1-2)
We are also commanded to "give attention to reading, to exhortation,
to doctrine" (I Tim. 4:13 ; Heb. 3:13), so as to "handle aright the
word of truth" (II Tim. 2:15)
